I found an easy to make Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe online, and wanted to share it with you, so you can use up any pumpkin left-overs you might have.
It's important that you use fresh pumpkin, and not pumpkins that have been outside for halloween, as these could have started to go rotten.
You only need a few simple ingredients and some you may have in your cupboards already!
Ingredients you will need:
- One small - medium sized pumpkin; 1 cup of pumpkin.
- Dog safe Peanut butter; 1/4 of a cup
- Eggs; 2 medium eggs.
- Wholemeal Flour; 2.5 - 5 cups of flour (additional may be needed).
- Pumpkin carving tools.
Method to make the treats:
- Pre-heat your oven to 180 c / 350 f.
- Cut your pumpkin into half and scrape the seeds/inners out.
- Remove the skin, chop the pumpkin into chunks and boil until softened, OR roast in the oven until softened.
- Once the pumpkin is cooked/softened, drain any excess liquid, and then mash the pumpkin.
- Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and keep mixing until the ingredient mix is like play-dough consistency; you may need to add additional flour, to get the right consistency.
- Line your baking trays with grease proof baking paper, so your trays are ready to be filled with treats.
- Cover your worktop with either flour or baking paper. - Roll your ingredient mix out on your worktop, and get cutting!
- Once all your mix is cut up into treats, pop them onto your baking trays and the into the oven for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
It's recommended to store your treats in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 1 week, or you can put them in the freezer for up-to 3 months.
Let your pups enjoy! Floss & Merlin ap-paw-rove!
